Just as WashU strives to drive social mobility and regional prosperity through education, Bridge Bread provides the ‘hand up’ of dignified restorative employment to our neighbors. By supporting Bridge Bread, we are putting the ‘In St. Louis, For St. Louis’ mission into practice—one loaf at a time.
WashU believes in the power of potential; Bridge Bread unlocks it by providing jobs that offer more than a paycheck—they offer a sense of purpose.
Bridge Bread Bakery is a non-profit social enterprise that provides restorative employment and housing assistance to people without safe and stable housing. Through meaningful work they become valued, contributing members of our community.
Bridge Bread isn’t just a social enterprise; we are neighbors. With our Loop Bakery located just steps from the Danforth Campus, the impact of our mission is felt right here in WashU’s backyard. By supporting Bridge Bread, WashU students and staff are investing in the Bakers in the Delmar Loop who are using the skilled craft of artisan baking to move forward from stability with a stable job and apartment to an actual career path. With time and effort, our Bakers can be on track to become pastry chefs and bakery managers. This is our way of being ‘In St. Louis, For St. Louis’ in its most delicious form.
